from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Praemium Bernense studio antiquitatis augendo is a prize from the Institute for Classical Philology at the University of Bern for the best Matura thesis in the subjects of Latin and Greek . It has been advertised annually since 2006.

The topics for this may come from the entire spectrum of Latin and Greek philology. For example, the works can consist of a literary and linguistic interpretation by an author or a certain text passage, provide editions and comments on texts or go into the reception history of authors, texts and motifs.

In particular, reference is made to the Middle and Neo-Latin literature as a suitable field of activity. The scope of the work should be approx. 25 pages. It can also be higher. The papers can be written in German, French, Italian, English and Latin.

Theses written by high school students outside of the Matura can also be submitted if they meet the requirements of a Matura thesis. This should be ensured by the assessment and, if necessary, supervision of a Latin teacher employed at the school.

The total prize money is CHF 3,000 (1st prize 1,500 / 2nd prize 1,000 / 3rd prize 500).
