The Prague Philharmonic ( Czech : Pražští filharmonici , international English name: Prague Philharmonics and The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra ) are a Czech symphony orchestra from Prague .

history

After the Second World War , the Barrandov Film Studios' own orchestra was founded in 1948 as Filmový Symfonický Orchestr (FISYO), making it the oldest orchestra of its kind in Europe. Its task was to provide the music for the annual dozen domestic film productions. In 1989 the State Orchestra was dissolved as economically unsustainable. The musicians did not give up "their" orchestra and gradually set it up on its own. The ensemble initially appeared as the Czech Symphony Orchestra Prague , but eventually changed its name to the Prague Philharmonic in 1995 due to repeated misuse of the name by other orchestras as the Prague Philharmonic as a purely market economy, without state or municipal financial support, organized Prague Philharmonic . With this economic status they are among the exceptions in European musical life. In 2014 the brand name The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra was deleted from the Czech company register.

Act

Concert tours have taken the Prague Philharmonic through Europe and are a focus of their work. In the German-speaking region, they helped shape festivals and music weeks in Aachen, Altenberg, Berlin, Corvey-Höxter, Dresden, Hamm, Cologne, Munich, Paderborn, Black Forest MF, Speyer, Strasbourg and Worms. Musically, the orchestra not only combines classical music with film music , but occasionally also with jazz or pop.
In addition to the
Philharmonic Rocks , it offers a series of Classics for Kids with the conductor / presenter Michel Macheè under the name Klassik als Event. The Philharmonic also performed with around 80 cantories or concert choirs. These choral symphonic guest projects, an abbreviation of three letters is her name: KSO what K onzert, S tudio and O tory stands. The New Year's concerts of the Prague Philharmonic under the direction of Friedemann Riehle are among the highlights of Prague's musical life.

The orchestra also has around 200 recording sessions a year, and its cooperation partners include decca, EMI, Sony BGM and European, US and Canadian film studios and composers. During CD recordings, u. a. the soloists Jonas Kaufmann and Sol Gabetta and the conductors Georg Solti and Yehudi Menuhin . In 2015 the orchestra recorded the soundtrack for the computer game The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 .

The Prague Philharmonic is a co-founder of the Prague Classical Initiative . The honorary conductor is Mario Clemens, and there are permanent conductors. a. Petr Vronský, Leoš Svárovský, Nick Raine, Friedemann Riehle, Richard Hein, Charles Olivieri-Munroe, Alexander J. Süß, Adam Clemens and Boris Perrenoud. 1st concertmaster is Radek Šandera. In 2005 a Camerata emerged from the Prague Philharmonic, which gives concerts under the name Concerto Prague with chamber philharmonic ensembles.
