Praia do Forte

Praia do Forte is located in the district ( municipality ) of Mata de São João in Bahia

Coordinates: 12 ° 39 '  S , 38 ° 5'  W Praia do Forte is a Brazilian resort in the state of Bahia and a former fishing village, about 80 km north-east from the city of Salvador da Bahia is located and to the municipality ( municipality ) of Mata de São João . You can reach Praia do Forte via the Estrada do Coco toll road. The Estrada do Coco ends in Praia do Forte and is followed by the Linha Verde , which connects the place with the other northern beaches of Bahia.

The place Praia do Forte is one of the most visited tourist places on the Bahian coast. There is a tourist infrastructure with hotels, guest houses and restaurants. The TAMAR nature project with the participation of the Brazilian environmental authority IBAMA in Praia do Forte has achieved particular awareness . This initiative deals with the preservation of sea turtles, which can reach a size of up to 3 meters and lay their eggs in this beach region.

Cars cannot enter the center of Praia do Forte.

There is about 12 km of sandy beach with many offshore reefs that can be reached with appropriate boat tours. The coconut trees are the main vegetation in this region, which is why the entire coast is also called Costa dos Coqueiros (coconut palm coast ).

history

In 1971 the German-born Brazilian Klaus Peters acquired the former coconut farm with 5400 hectares from Sr. Paulo Padilha de Souza with the aim of creating a tourist resort.

In the vicinity of the village there is a castle that was built by the noble Garcia d'Ávila family.
