Costa dos Coqueiros

The tourist zone north of Salvador da Bahia is called Costa dos Coqueiros and is located in the state of Bahia in Brazil with an extension of 193 km from Salvador da Bahia to the state border from Bahia to Sergipe . Part of this route is now also known as Linha Verde .

Historically, the name of the coast was given by the noble house Garcia D'Avila, who still have lands in this area today. In terms of content, the name was derived from the main plant of this region, the coconut palm. The Costa dos Coqueiros is crossed by the Linha Verde road (part of the BA-099 ), which connects all the northern beaches and towns with Salvador da Bahia. In total, the tourist area of ​​the Costa dos Coqueiras has more than 10,000 overnight accommodations in the various coastal towns and hotel facilities. In addition, there is the TAMAR project, headquartered in Praia do Forte, which aims to preserve the sea ​​turtles that live in abundance on this coast .
