The Pravda (German Prawda ) is a wooded plateau in the Džbán ( Krugwald ) in the Czech Republic . It is located between the villages of Pnětluky , Konětopy, Solopysky and Domoušice in the Džbán Nature Park.

Position and extent

The Pravda rises between the valleys of the brooks Pnětlucký potok and Hasina or Domoušický potok and belongs to the land registry of Konětopy u Pnětluk. The plateau has the outline of an acute-angled triangle facing east. The legendary Čertův kámen ( Devil's Stone ) is located on the slope below the northern corner point . The spur of Pravda Castle forms the southwest corner point . At the eastern tip of the plateau on the way to Solopysky there are several short dry stone walls made of plans of unknown age, which may have served as front ramparts to protect the castle. In the south and east, the Pravda is bypassed by the Rakovník – Louny railway line .

history

On the southwestern spur there was probably a castle complex since the 14th century, the name of which is unknown. From the 1430s onwards, Pravda Castle was built in its place in two phases and is considered a masterpiece of fortification art of the 15th century. The castle was abandoned in the second half of the 16th century and has been considered desolate since 1593. The Vorwerkshof north-east of the castle was then also given up.

At the time of the national rebirth of the Czechs , the ruin became the destination of national pilgrimages because of its symbolic, probably Hussite name. On July 12, 1868, around 10,000 Czechs gathered in the courtyard of the castle for a patriotic festival.

The ruin has been visited by day trippers and tramps since the 20th century.
