Pregelwiesen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pregelwiesen or Bürgerwiesen was a district of Königsberg (Prussia) , east of the Lomse , the Sackheimer Tor and the Wiesenwallstraße.

Surname

The name describes the floodplain landscape of the Pregels , which is barely settable and is constantly threatened by flooding , which served the farmers as a hay meadow and the townspeople as a recreational area.

history

The Pregel divides into two arms about twelve kilometers east of Königsberg near the village of Steinbeck (Samland) (Russian Rybnoje). North flows the new Pregel or Lipza or samländischer Pregel , south takes Old Pregel or Natangische Pregel its course. The Pregelwiesen are located on this "island". Both Pregelarms unite in front of the Kneiphof , only to divide again to the cathedral island.

In 1802 the Pregelwiesen were still completely uninhabited. From the slaughterhouse on the wooden bridge, a lane ran parallel to the southern bank of the Neuer Pregel. Here there was the "Old Town Wood Meadows". On the north bank of the Pregel in the district of Sackheim lay the "Königliche Holzwiesen" up to the Pregel barrier "Litthauischer Baum" on the eastern city wall. The Königsberg city map from 1931, however, shows a weak development and drainage ponds.
