Premier Automotive Group

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Premier Automotive Group (PAG) was founded in 1998 , is part of the Ford Motor Company and organized the premium and luxury brands of the group under one roof, based in London. Most of the brands were sold and now operate independently.

history

In 2006 the following premium and luxury brands belonged to PAG:

From 1998 to 2002, the US brand Lincoln also belonged to PAG. Since Lincoln, as a premium brand specially tailored to the US taste, could not be marketed worldwide, this brand was spun off from PAG.

In 2006, the Ford Motor Company took over the trademark rights for the British Rover brand from BMW (exercising a right of first refusal from the original sale of the Land-Rover brand) in order to prevent the brand from being sold to the Chinese SAIC and to protect the Land-Rover brand . Eventually the brand was sold together with Jaguar.

On March 12, 2007, the sale of the Aston Martin brand to an international group of investors was announced. Ford will keep 15% of the shares. The purchase was completed on June 2, 2008.

The Jaguar and Land-Rover brands were also sold as a package to the Indian Tata Group in early 2008 . A takeover offer from the Chinese manufacturer Geely was accepted in December 2008 for the previously profitable Volvo Cars brand , which fell into the red in 2008 and was the only operating brand of PAG, and was finally sold in 2010. In Europe, the Ford Group intends to focus primarily on the core brand Ford in the future.
