from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Presbyterian Church in Cameroon ( English Presbyterian Church in Cameroon - PCC ) is an independent Presbyterian -oriented church in Cameroon . According to its own information, it has over a million members.

history

English Baptists had been missionary in Cameroon since the mid-19th century . After Cameroon was granted protection of the German Empire in the Berlin Conference of 1884, a conference of European mission societies agreed that the Basel Mission should take over the work of the English Baptists. During the First World War , Cameroon fell into British hands. The German and Swiss missionaries were called back, but some returned from 1925 and initially only worked in the British-controlled part of Cameroon. After the events of the Second World War made it clear that the church could not be led from outside, it made itself independent in 1957. It gave itself its own constitution with regard to its basic principles of organization and worship. The number of parish members at that time was around 59,000. The friendly relations with the Basel Mission continued.
