building

The Presidencia del Gobierno de las Islas Canarias is located on Avenida José Manuel Guimerá No. 5. The building was designed in 1993 by the architects Felipe Artengo Rufino, Fernando Martín Menis and José María Rodríguez-Pastrana and completed in 2000. Special emphasis was placed on the natural stone cladding of the walls. A large part of the outer walls is clad with about 20 cm thick basalt slabs that come from the south of the island of Tenerife. Inside, stone types from different areas of the Canary Islands were used for cladding. The wood in the patio comes from Casa Hamilton, which was demolished in 1973.

The administration building consists of three floors and a basement in which there is an underground car park. The main entrance on the ground floor is closed with two bronze gates created by Juan Bordes . Vegetable and animal motifs from the islands are depicted on them. On the ground floor are the press office and the library, which is clad in green stone from Lanzarote . The material for the clothing of the press conference hall and the ballroom comes from the area around the Tindaya volcano on Fuerteventura . In the 300-seat ballroom there is a large painting by the painter Pedro González. There are only offices on the first floor. The offices of the President and Vice-President are located in one area on the second floor, with the room for cabinet meetings in between. Representative events and receptions take place in another area. The walls are adorned with red stone from La Gomera and paintings by the painter Fernando Álamo. Part of the building has another floor on which the President's official residence is located.
