Press and information officer

The press and information officer ( English. Press & Information Officer mostly but Public Information Officer , PIO for short ) is an officer function in military staff . Similar uses in companies range from press spokespersons to heads of communications .

In the armies of the NATO countries, the press officer appears as the spokesman and representative of his military unit. He advises the commander and the troops on all media issues and in communication with the public .

Swiss Army

In the Swiss Army , the PIO is an officer with the rank of captain or major or a specialist officer with the same NATO rank code . He is the commander's advisor for all questions relating to internal (own units) and external communication (media). He also edits or develops editorial contributions for print and electronic media (internal / external).

In the Bundeswehr one speaks of the press officer. Depending on the level of full-time and is a non-executive press personnel employed. The press officers are trained centrally at the Bundeswehr Academy for Information and Communication . The completion of the course is followed by an internship with print , radio and television media, before the personnel term press officer is assigned to you in a certificate of competence ( training and job number ).
