Press club (association)

A press club is usually an association in which journalists and media professionals come together. The aim of these press clubs and the admission procedure are usually regulated by statutes . The majority of the press clubs are registered associations (eV) and pursue charitable purposes. The members can be full-time journalists as well as employees of press offices. A prerequisite is a close professional connection to the press , radio (radio and television) or online editorial staff .

The Deutsche Presseclub eV , founded in Bonn in 1952 , mainly includes the capital correspondents of large daily newspapers and radio and television companies. In addition, there are currently around 33 local, regional and lobbyist press clubs in Germany , most of which are based in major German cities . 21 of these clubs have come together for a regular exchange in the Forum of German Press Clubs.

Regular meetings of the members with guests from science , business and politics serve the purpose of information and communication .

The first press club was founded in Vienna in 1859 under the name Concordia .
