The Preston Bridge is a road bridge near the Scottish town of Preston in the Council Area Scottish Borders . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.
description
The masonry viaduct was built in 1770. The style of the Preston Bridge is based on the work of the Scottish architect William Adam . It spans the Whiteadder Water with three brick-lined segment arches and crosses the A6112, which connects the A1 with the A698 . While red sandstone blocks were built into layered masonry for the masonry , the parapet consists of roughly hewn quarry stone . The lined segment arches are made with keystones . The middle arch has a larger span than the flanking ones. There are sharp icebreakersout. While the south side is designed with floral ornamented gussets , the round niches on the north side are unadorned. Weathered slabs are embedded in the parapets above the keystones.
