history

Football was only played in Gibraltar by members of the British military who were stationed there. In 1892 civilians founded the “Prince of Wales FC”, one of the peninsula's first non-military football clubs at the time. Two more clubs were founded a year later in 1893: Gibraltar FC and Jubilee FC The interest in football was so great that the Gibraltar Football Association was founded in 1895 and the first national football competition, the Merchants Cup , was held that same year .

In 1907 the Gibraltar Football Ligue was officially founded. Prince of Wales started as one of the eight teams in the new league, having won unofficial championships several times in previous years. The club also won several championship titles in the official league and was the record champion of the first football league in Gibraltar for a long time with 19 titles, but The Prince of Wales won the last title in 1953. Since the 2013/14 season they were no longer the sole record holder there Lincoln FC also won their 19th title in the Gibraltar Eurobet Division and with the championship of Lincoln FC the following year they were no longer record champions.

They also once won the Rock Cup , the national soccer cup in 1949.

The association was later dissolved.
