List of apple varieties |
The Albrecht apple or Albrecht apple , actually Prince Albrecht of Prussia , is an autumn apple .
description
The variety was discovered in 1865 by C. Braun, court gardener of Prince Albrecht of Prussia , the youngest brother of Emperor Wilhelm I , in the gardens of his Kamenz Castle in Silesia , as a seedling by Emperor Alexander and Baumann's Renette . This Silesian variety was very popular in this area at the time and suitable for cultivation in mountainous areas. It is also grown in Germany and Central Europe, where it is considered an old variety that is ideal for home gardens.
Both the wood and the blossom are very frost-hardy and are therefore also suitable for higher or rough locations. Likewise, this strain is hardly prone to scab . The mid-late flowering of this diploid variety makes a good pollen donor.
The large, flat-round fruits have a light yellow to green-yellow basic color with an overcolour ranging from carmine red to cloudy red. The flesh is greenish white, sweet and sour and very juicy. The fruits ripen at the end of September and can be stored until December.
The fruits can be used both for consumption and for further processing.
