Smeretschna ( Ukrainian Смеречна , Polish Smereczna ) is a former village in the Western Ukraine , now some buildings within the village Terlo ( Терло ) in Rajon Staryj Sambir of Lviv Oblast .
It was founded in the early 16th century as a royal village in the Starostei Przemyśl. It initially belonged to the Ruthenian Voivodeship of the aristocratic republic of Poland-Lithuania . In 1567 the local Orthodox Church was mentioned. During the first partition of Poland in 1772 the village became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804).
In 1784 German colonists of Lutheran (mostly) and Reformed denominations were settled on the grounds of the Wallachian village in the course of the Josephine colonization . The colony was called Prinzenthal and became an independent municipality. The Protestants belonged to the parish in Bandrów .
In 1900 the municipality of Smereczna had 32 houses with 220 inhabitants, of which 216 were Ruthenian-speaking, 4 German-speaking, 215 Greek-Catholic and 4 Jews. The community of Prinzenthal had 11 houses with 74 inhabitants, 69 of them German-speaking, 5 Ruthenian-speaking, 6 Greek-Catholic, 68 of other faiths.
After the end of the Polish-Ukrainian War in 1919, both communities became part of Poland. In 1921 Smereczna had 33 houses with 221 inhabitants, 214 of them Greek Catholic Ruthenians and 7 Roman Catholic Poles. Prinzenthal had 8 houses with 41 inhabitants, 36 of them Protestant Germans and 5 Greek-Catholic Ruthenians.
In the course of the Second World War , the place was first occupied by the Soviet Union and then in 1941 came to the district of Galicia . The Germans from Prinzenthal were resettled in 1940 as a result of the German-Soviet border and friendship treaty. The residents of Smerechna were relocated in 1952 for reasons unknown, and the local Greek Catholic Church was demolished.
