Private psychotherapist

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A private psychotherapist is a psychotherapist who only treats private patients , self-payers and statutory health insurance patients in the reimbursement procedure .

In contrast to contract psychotherapists, private psychotherapists practice independently of the provisions of the Social Security Code . The patient is treated independently of the bodies ( Joint Federal Committee (GBA), statutory health insurance (GKV) and statutory health insurance associations (KVen)). Thus - except in emergencies - there is no entitlement to treatment for those with statutory health insurance. A private psychotherapist is state licensed and a compulsory member of the competent psychotherapist chamber . Like all psychotherapists, the private psychotherapist is bound by professional law and is one of the liberal professions in Germany and Austria .

Branches

Against the background of the difficult supply situation in some areas and the resulting long waiting times for a therapy place, private psychotherapists are also increasingly establishing themselves in addition to registered psychotherapists. About 10% of all psychotherapists established in Germany practice in a private practice.

Reward

Unless a separate fee agreement has been made with the patient, the psychotherapist's fee must be calculated in accordance with the fee schedule for psychotherapists (GOP). This follows from § 612 BGB. In particular, it is subject to Section 1, Paragraph 2 of the GOP: Remuneration in accordance with Paragraph 1 is only billable for services that are listed in Sections B and G of the Schedule of Fees of the Schedule of Fees for Doctors. Section 6 (2) of the fee schedule for doctors applies with the stipulation that psychotherapeutic services that are not included in the fee schedule of the fee schedule for doctors are equivalent to a service in Sections B and G of the fee schedule of the fee schedule for Doctors can be charged. The fees are calculated by multiplying a rating number by the valid point value (e.g. application and evaluation of orienting test examinations totaling 13.22 €). This fee is multiplied by an increase factor depending on the effort. The patient has to pay the fee invoice to the private psychotherapist. The fee invoice the patient can at a private health insurance (PHI) submit for reimbursement.

In the so-called reimbursement procedure , patients who cannot find a free therapy place can have their statutory health insurance reimbursed for the costs of private treatment . In Section 13 (3) SGB V it says: "If the health insurance company could not provide a service that cannot be postponed in time or if it has wrongly refused a service and the insured person incurred costs for the self-procured service, the health insurance company will pay the costs incurred to be reimbursed insofar as the service was necessary. The costs for self-procured services for medical rehabilitation according to the ninth book will be reimbursed according to § 15 of the ninth book. " The Ärzteblatt emphasizes the importance of the reimbursement procedure for the mentally ill because it means that "[...] mentally ill people who have looked in vain for a therapy place with a psychotherapist approved in the statutory health insurance system also go to approved psychotherapists who work in private practice without approval [ could]. " In the past ten years, expenses for reimbursement of costs for psychotherapy according to Section 13 (3) SGB V have increased almost eightfold. However, they are still low in absolute terms: in 2012 they amounted to 45 million euros with a total service volume of around 1.5 billion euros for outpatient psychotherapeutic services.

Private patient

In contrast to cash patients, who reveal themselves as such by presenting their health insurance card or the electronic health card, a treatment contract is concluded - verbally or in writing - between the psychotherapist and private patient . This does not affect a possible. Insurance contract of the private patient with a private health insurance.

As a secondary obligation under the treatment contract, the psychotherapist has the duty to support the patient with the reimbursement. This usually means the preparation of a therapy application that includes a professional assessment and a preliminary specific therapy plan. After the application, in the case of some insurance companies after a review by an expert, the patient receives a commitment to cover the costs.

In the case of private patients eligible for subsidy , different subsidy guidelines apply , which also include an application procedure.

Statutory health insurance can also be treated as private patients, waiving their entitlement to benefits in kind from statutory health insurance. They are also called "self-payers".
