Prix ​​Ars Acustica

The Prix ​​Ars Acustica was a prize awarded by Westdeutscher Rundfunk to authors of a production of acoustic art as media art .

Project descriptions or scores for a production of acoustic art were submitted . Language, noise, and music can be used as equivalent compositional elements of the acoustic realization. The project can be language-independent or multilingual. The spectrum of forms ranges from acoustic collage and onomatopoeic composition to polyphonic sound montage, soundscape, sound sculpture and intermedia space-sound performance.

Of the projects submitted, three were produced by WDR, and one of these audio pieces was awarded the prize. The award was linked to two broadcasts of the piece and the award of a new composition commission to the artist.

The aim was to promote the production of acoustic art and its international exchange. The award was discontinued in 2003.
