ProLiant

ProLiant is a family of servers from Hewlett Packard Enterprise . The products are market leaders in the x86 server market.

Scalable Line (SL)

Servers in this product line are rack-based and are mainly used in data centers and environments in which maximum computing power is to be achieved.

Blade Line (BL)

Servers in this product line are rack-based. They are specially designed for operation in a blade enclosure and can therefore only be used in one. Due to their compact design, blade systems are suitable for use in environments in which a lot of server technology is required in a small space.

History and technology

HP ProLiant DL380 Generation 5

The servers were once developed by Compaq . After the company came to HP, HP no longer used its previous Netserver brand.

The four product lines are differentiated according to series, which shows the processor configuration. The series 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700 and 900 exist here. The 900 series contains 8 sockets , which support up to 80 CPU cores and up to 4 TB RAM. Models with 0 at the end of the name use Intel processors, models with 5 at the end use AMD processors.

HP announced the 8th generation of ProLiant servers in February 2012. In April 2013, the Moonshot system was presented to the public. The 9th generation of ProLiant servers followed in August 2014 based on an Intel Haswell chipset and DDR4 memory .
