Professional futbolnaja league

The Professionalnaja futbolnaja liga (PFL) ( Russian Профессиональная футбольная лига (ПФЛ) / Professional Football League ) also known under its English name Association Professional Football League is a Russian football association founded in 1992, which specializes in professional Russian football with the exception of the Premier League , i.e. the 1st division and 2nd division is responsible. In addition, the association organizes the Russian student football championship and is a co-organizer of the Russian Cup .

The PFL was founded in 1991/92 to organize the Russian professional leagues. In 2001/02, following the example of the English Premier League, the top division clubs founded their own association in order to gain more inclusion in the organization. Since the 2002 season, the PFL has only organized the second and third stages of the Russian Football Association with 20 clubs in the 1st division and around 80 clubs in the five seasons of the 2nd division.

The PFL has been an associated member of the Association of European Football Professional Leagues EPFL since 2007 .
