Projection surface
Under a projection is understood in the geometry , cartography or optics those surface (often a projection plane ) to which a prototype shown by rays (thrown).
In addition to one level, the following are possible:
- in the map projection mainly cylinders and cones (see Mercator and cone projection )
- in optics and astronomy also spherical surfaces
- In geodesy, the surface of the earth projected perpendicularly onto the earth's ellipsoid or geoid
Most of the projection surfaces used (especially the plane) have the characteristic that the mathematical formulations of the images and calculations on these surfaces are as simple as possible.
