Prokop Lupáč z Hlaváčova ( also Lupacius, Lupacyus, Lupatius, M. Procopio Lvpacio Hlavvaczovvaeo , German Prokop Lupáč von Hlaváčov ; * around 1530 in Prague ; † April 4, 1587 in Taus ), was a humanistic writer and historian.

Life

Prokop Lupáč studied at Charles University , where he obtained a baccalaureate in 1558 and a master's degree in 1561 . He then taught at the Latin School in Nimburg until 1563 . In 1562 he was raised to the nobility with the attribute z Hlaváčova . From 1563 he taught at Charles University, where Daniel Adam z Veleslavína was one of his students. From 1566 to 1568 he held the office of Dean of the Philosophical Faculty. In 1569 he became councilor of Taus, where he rose to councilor in 1572. After marrying a bourgeoisie in 1574, he increasingly occupied himself with asset management and trading in land and real estate.

As early as 1556, Prokop Lupáč was introduced to the circle of poets of Jan Hodějovský z Hodějova by his teacher M. Collin , through whom his literary career began. His closest friends included u. a. Petrus Codicillus and David Crinitus z Hlavačova .

His most important work was the adaptation of the Latin historical calendar "Rerum Bohemicarum Ephemeris sive Kalendarium historicum", in which he, like the Wittenberg preacher Paul Eber , lists the events according to the days in the year. This sorting enables a causal statement of the historical events and contains a number of historical facts, the sources of which are unknown today. At the same time, the calendar provides extensive information on cultural life in the 16th century. The work was first published in Nuremberg in 1578 and in 1584 by the Nigrin publishing house in Prague.
