Prometheus is an active eruptive center on Jupiter's moon Io . It lies on the Ios hemisphere, facing away from Jupiter , at 1.52 ° south and 153.94 ° west.

Connected to Prometheus is the ring-shaped volcano Prometheus Patera and a 100 km long lava flow. The eruptive center was first recognized in images from Voyager 1 in March 1979. That same year, the International Astronomical Union named it after the Greek god of fire, Prometheus .
