Protaspis is a genus of heterotrophic flagellates from the Cercomonadida group .
features
The cell body has a fixed shape, the two unevenly striking, unequal length flagella attach subapically to the ventral side of the cell. The cells are flattened dorsoventrally , there is a pit on the ventral side. From this pit, the pseudopodia are formed, which are used for food intake. The cell nucleus often has a cell cap.
nutrition
The nutrition is phagotrophic with the help of the pseudopodia. Protaspis verrucosa is able to catch small cells of gold monads and bodonids .
