Protestantse Kerk (Ritthem)
The Protestantse Kerk (also called Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk , German Church of Our Lady ) is the Protestant parish church of Ritthem , a district of the municipality of Vlissingen in the Dutch province of Zeeland .
history
The church, which was consecrated to Our Lady until the Reformation , was parish off from West Soubourg before 1235 . Parts of the original Romanesque church have been preserved in the west tower, which was rebuilt in the 14th century and, in its rich structure, is a special testimony to the village's Scheldt Gothic style . After severe damage to the church during the siege of Middelburg in 1572, the Gothic nave had to be rebuilt in the course of the Eighty Years' War and was given its present form in 1611. The choir was resigned because it no longer had a liturgical function in the Reformed worship of a preaching church. The pulpit dates from the 17th century.
The parish belongs to the Protestant Church in the Netherlands, which was created in 2004 .
organ
From 1873 there was a small organ in the church made by the organ builder Van Puffelen. The instrument was badly affected by the floods in 1944/45 and 1953 and was replaced in 1961 by a new organ built by the organ builder Van Leeuwen. The instrument has 9 manual registers and a transmission to the pedal, which can be coupled to the manual.
