Proticity

The term proticity (engl. Proticity ) referred to in the chemical , the ability or tendency of a substance or chemical group, a proton split off or a chemical bond to provide. The term is hardly used in chemistry.

In biochemistry and biophysics , the term was introduced by Nobel Prize winner Peter D. Mitchell as a word formation analogous to the term electricity , to emphasize that the flow of protons through a biomembrane can do work in the form of metabolic processes .

Proticity , in contrast to the Engl. Counterpart proticity , is only occasionally used in the specialist literature.
