The Provencal Alps and Prealps are a mountain group of the western Alps in south-eastern France .
The highest peak is the Tête de l'Estrop with 2961 m , the Mont Ventoux ( 1912 m ) is well known.
A biosphere reserve is located in the area.
The Grand Canyon du Verdon (German Verdon Gorge ) counts as a tourist nature experience and has a 21 kilometer long gorge.
SOIUSA classification
The Provencal Alps and Pre-Alps form section 3 of the SOIUSA division in the southern western Alps.
They are divided into
- 3.I: Provencal Alps
- 3.II: Digne Prealps
- 3.III: Prealps of Grasse
- 3.IV: Pre-Alps of Vaucluse
Subsections 3.II, 3.III and 3.IV are also summarized as the Provencal Prealps , the highest mountain of which is the Signal de la Sainte Baume (1147 m).
