Process measurement technology

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Process measurement technology is the measurement technology in technical processes , especially in process engineering . The process measurement technology is part of the MSR technology . In contrast, production metrology is metrology in production technology .

purpose

The measuring devices of the process measurement technology are used to control and regulate the technical processes and, if necessary, to monitor them by state supervisory authorities.

They typically measure the flow rate, level, temperature and pressure of gases, liquids, solids and their mixtures and, more rarely, concentration, pH value and redox potential, but also measure the course of polymerisation reactions using sound velocity sensors.

particularities

In contrast to laboratory measurement technology , the measuring devices used in process measurement technology are particularly robust and measure continuously.

The measuring devices for process measurement technology are installed in pipes , containers and apparatus and are shown in the P&ID diagram .

In plant construction , the measuring devices of the process measurement technology must be designed and precisely specified. Standards and VDI / VDE guidelines are helpful here.

If they are installed in potentially explosive areas, electrical measuring devices must meet special conditions, e.g. B. the type of protection intrinsic safety . In order to fundamentally avoid the risk of explosion from electrical sparks, electrical auxiliary energy was dispensed with and pneumatic flow, level, temperature and pressure measuring devices were used.

Process measurement technology in process engineering

In process engineering systems, the output signals from these measuring devices are transmitted to the control rooms, e.g. B. by means of an electrical or pneumatic standard signal or Profibus PA . Electric or pneumatic compact controllers or a process control system process the signals from the measuring devices and generate control signals for the actuating devices in order to influence the process and guide it in the desired manner. Control devices are control valves , butterfly valves , contactors and frequency converters for pumps and fans.
