The Prschewalski Mountains , actually called Arkatag (also Arkha Tagh, Chinese A'erge Shan , official spelling Arkatag Shan 阿 尓 格 山, also 阿尔喀 山), is a part of the Kunlun Mountains up to 6973  m high in the autonomous regions of Tibet and Xinjiang in the People's Republic of China ( Asia ).

The mountain range, which lies north along the elongated border of the Chinese autonomous regions of Tibet in the south and Xinjiang in the north, is the western main part of the Kunlun Shan ; the eastern one is the Marco Polo Mountains . With the Ulugh Muztagh, it contains the highest mountain and represents part of the northern boundary of the highlands of Tibet .

The term Przhevalsky Mountains is used almost exclusively in the literature and media of the western hemisphere . The mountains were named after the Russian military and explorer Nikolai Prschewalski (1839-1888).
