The Marco Polo Mountains are up to about 6300 m high part of the Kunlun - high mountains in the Hoh Xil area of the Qinghai province in China ( Asia ).
The mountain range south of the Qaidam Basin is the eastern main part of the Kunlun Shan; the western one is the Przhevalsky Mountains . It represents part of the north-eastern boundary of the highlands of Tibet , some of which extend beyond the borders of Tibet .
The name Marco Polo Mountains is used almost exclusively in the literature and media of the western hemisphere . The mountains were named after the Venetian salesman Marco Polo (1254-1324).
