action

Jun Imai is the singer and guitarist of the band "Prussian Blue". His friends and band members get to know Sayuri, who joins the band as a singer and also moves into the boys' shared apartment. The band rehearses day and night, because in three months there will be a competition for school bands where a record deal can be won. The biggest competition is the girl band “Orchidee” and the boy band “Cargo”.

Sayuri slowly befriends her roommate Jun, who was initially not enthusiastic about her move. The two get closer when he lets Sayuri, who is plagued by nightmares, sleep with him in his bed. When Jun is kissed by a musician from the “Orchidee”, the first conflicts arise in the young relationship.

Publications

Prussian Blue appeared from February to July 2003 in the German manga magazine Daisuki , issues 1 to 6, and was published in the same year by Carlsen Comics as an anthology in the Best of Daisuki series. Despite the end of its appearance in Daisuki, a sequel was announced when the anthology came out. However, since the artist was later under contract with Tokyopop , the sequel Yonen Buzz appeared there.

reception

The comic was one of the first recognizable manga-influenced German comics and was advertised as such by the publisher. The publication was a success for the author, which was not repeated with the sequel to Tokyopop. It was also Christina Plaka's first commercial release. In Splashcomics, the drawing style is described as "takes getting used to, but still beautiful" . The plot is a bit thin, but the comic shows potential and in its course a steady development of the illustrator can be seen. The work is a typical Shōjo manga. The German magazine Animania praises the drawings as "not bad as a manga debut" . Simple drawing style, frequent abandonment of backgrounds made the style. The work knows how to inspire with the " depiction of gentle and thoughtful scenes on the one hand, and funny and humorous scenes on the other" .
