The AnimaniA is a German-language magazine for anime and manga .
The first edition was published in September 1994. The magazine was the first in German to be devoted to this particular part of Japanese culture. Even before the first issue there was a number 0 that was distributed free of charge at the Erlangen Comic Salon in 1994 for promotional purposes .
Up to issue 50, AnimaniA was published every two months, then ten times a year. From the 04–05 / 2010 issue, Animania will appear six times a year, as it did at the beginning, which is due to the declining release development on the German anime market.
The magazine has the categories News Anime Germany , News Manga Germany , News Anime & Manga Japan / USA , Fan Corner: Letters to the Editor / Fanart Gallery , Calendar and a Crossword Puzzle. Also news from J-Culture / Screenshot / Soundcheck / Virtual Area and competitions.
The AnimaniA label was part of Weird Visions until February 2010 . After Weird Visions went bankrupt, the magazine was bought out of the bankruptcy estate by editor-in-chief Thomas Webler and transferred to Animagine GmbH. Most of the existing editors were taken over.
In addition to the actual magazine, the following publications, mostly out of print, have been published under the Animania label:
- AnimaniA - FanArt Special - Fanart
- AnimaniA - anthology of the first year
- AnimaniA - Sailor Moon Special
- AnimaniA - Hentai Special
- Armitage III (in AnimaniA 3/96 to 4/97)
- Groundwork of Evangelion - Artbook
- The new generation of manga artists - Artbook
Since issue 04/2005 you can buy AnimaniA with a DVD on which you can find three pilot episodes, trailers, interviews, making-ofs and other things.
The employees of AnimaniA (or Animagine GmbH) also organize the annual summer anime convention Animagic .
The first AnimaniA editors-in-chief separated from the magazine after issue 39 at the end of 2000 and launched its own specialist magazine MangasZene in January 2001 .
