Psammetich III. (also Psammenit, Psammenitus) was the last pharaoh (king) of the ancient Egyptian 26th Dynasty (Saïten Dynasty) and ruled from 526 to 525 BC. Chr.

Psammetich III. was the son of Amasis and Queen Takheta. During his father's lifetime he was in command of the Egyptian fleet and succeeded him as the Egyptian king after his father's death. After a reign of only six months he was taken over by the Persian King Cambyses II in 525 BC. Defeated at Pelusion . This defeat is attributed to the betrayal of the Egyptian defenses by the mercenary leader Phanes of Halicarnassus . Psammetich III. was shortly afterwards besieged in Memphis and forced to give up his office. After the conquest of the city, Cambyses II had 2,000 wealthy residents killed, but treated Psammetich III out of pity. at first gracious.
