PtX center Lausitz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The PtX Center Lausitz ( PtX competence center for converting wind power into hydrogen ) is an institution of the Federal Ministry for the Environment and was presented in July 2019. It should become a climate protection component for industry and traffic and should help to support the structural change "getting out of lignite " in the Lausitz region .

At the end of July 2019, Federal Environment Minister Svenja Schulze and the PtX Center Lausitz presented an action program for the use of electricity- based fuels (e-fuels). The Power-to-X (PtX) center will be built in Cottbus in Brandenburg and will generate gaseous and liquid CO 2 -neutral fuels from green wind and solar power . This will be necessary in the future to secure the fuel supply for aircraft and ships but also for the energy supply of the steel, cement and chemical industries.

For the German industry, which is leading in the development of the various technological processes for PtX , the Minister believes that there are good domestic applications and good export opportunities.

The program of the Federal Environment Ministry (BMU) consists of four elements:

  • In addition to the PtX competence center in the Lausitz energy region, there are also
  • Networking with actors from research, business,
  • Model projects planned as part of the International Climate Protection Initiative and should be launched by the BMU at the end of 2019 / beginning of 2020
  • internationally oriented PtX secretariat are established.

In addition to the planned 60 positions, the necessary infrastructure is to be expanded in order to also carry out demonstration projects. The necessary funds of around eight million euros per year are to come from the Coal Regions Structural Strengthening Act accompanying the coal phase- out.

The lignite regions will receive up to 14 billion euros for investments until 2038 to offset the disadvantages for the region caused by the closings of the lignite mines. This was proposed by the Commission for Growth, Structural Change and Employment in May 2019 and the law and the measures contained therein were passed by the Federal Cabinet in August 2019 .
