Pterocactus gonjianii is a species of the genus Pterocactus from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Pterocactus gonjianii grows with numerous, branched and almost thornless shoots. They are cylindrical, purple-brown, 5 to 10 centimeters long and 1 to 1.5 centimeters in diameter and are conspicuously tuberous. There are numerous glochids up to 2 millimeters long on the shoots . The 6 to 10 spines, which cannot be differentiated into marginal and central spines, are colored glass-like to light brown and are 1 to 4 millimeters long.

The wheel-shaped, cream-colored or yellow to pink-white flowers are 4 to 5 centimeters in diameter. The fruits reach up to 2 centimeters in diameter.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Pterocactus gonjianii is distributed in Argentina in the province of San Juan at altitudes of 1500 to 2500 meters. The species was first described in 1982 by Roberto Kiesling .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered. The development of the populations is considered stable.
