features

The beetles reach a body length of 0.8 to 0.86 millimeters and are thus slightly larger than the similar Ptinella denticollis . The head is significantly narrower than the pronotum . This is about twice as long as it is wide. The posterior corners of the pronotum end in a sharp corner, the sides of the shield in front of the posterior corners are noticeably ragged, the disc has two flat oblong impressions. The females have flat, pigmentless compound eyes .

Occurrence and way of life

The species is common in Europe and also on the Canary Islands . The northern distribution extends from England, Denmark, Scandinavia and Finland to Central Europe south to northern and central France, Italy, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Lithuania to Russia. It is widespread in Central Europe, but rarely. The animals live under the bark of dead wood and in sludge.
