Ptinella is a genus of beetles from the family of dwarf beetles (Ptiliidae) within the subfamily Ptiliinae . It occurs in Europe with 12 kinds, in Central Europe six kinds are common.
features
The very small beetles have a flat build. There are two forms in all types. One includes yellow-colored, wingless and eyeless individuals, the other includes brown-yellow colored, winged animals with normally developed compound eyes . In the winged shape, the cover wings are provided with a dark, translucent oblong wipe on the pane. This is the second pair of translucent wings underneath. The pronotum is slightly heart-shaped and widest in the middle, where it is about the same width as the wing. These are not or slightly longer than wide.
Occurrence and way of life
The animals live under muddy, damp tree bark, in the muck of old tree trunks and rotting wood.
