Daniel Hünten ( baptized September 3, 1760 in Karden ; † April 1, 1823 in Koblenz ) was a German composer and musician .

Daniel Hünten was baptized on September 3, 1760, according to the custom at the time, about one to three days after the birth. Since 1784 Hünten got engagement, first on a probationary period and from 1788 in permanent position as (last) organist in the court chapel of Elector Clemens Wenzeslaus of Saxony in Koblenz.

During the so-called French era , he worked as an administrator at the tribunal and from 1798 to 1803 ran a reading room with German and French newspapers. He also gave organ and guitar lessons . In 1803, although Catholic, he became organist at the first Protestant church in Koblenz, approved by the French in 1802. The culmination of his career was his appointment as professor for harmony and organ playing at the normal school in Koblenz, which was reopened in 1808 . Daniel Hünten taught the young Henri Herz , who later supported his son Franz in Paris.

Hünten composed mainly organ sonatas , Fughetten and hymns . Almost all of his compositions have been lost, with the exception of a three-part movement of the Advent song Tauet, Heaven, the Righteous .

family

Nothing is known about the father Johann Jacob Hünten (1724–1806) and the mother Margareta Helene Ody (1730–1782) from Kastellaun , who spent their entire lives in Karden. The grandfather Andreas Hünten (1696–1766) was a synodalis ( aldermen ) in Karden. On January 8, 1786, Daniel Hünten married Anna Gertrud Weller (born April 3, 1750 in Koblenz; † March 8, 1816 in Koblenz). The marriage resulted in ten children (four daughters and six sons).

Of his children, the sons Wilhelm, Franz and Peter-Ernst dedicated themselves to music. Wilhelm (born April 23, 1791 in Koblenz; † 1858/1863) was a piano teacher and composer in Koblenz. Franz (born December 26, 1792 in Koblenz, † February 22, 1878 in Koblenz) worked as a musician (piano virtuoso) and fashion composer for piano and guitar in Koblenz. The youngest son Peter-Ernst Hünten (* 1799/1803 in Koblenz) was a piano and guitar teacher in Koblenz and Duisburg, and also composed for piano, guitar and flute.

Franz's son was painter Emil Hünten . The Koblenz landscape painter Daniel Dienz (1813–1888) came from the marriage of the daughter Katharina Wilhelmina Hünten (born August 6, 1789 in Koblenz) with Jacob Dienz .
