Publius Dasumius Rusticus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Publius Dasumius Rusticus was a Roman politician and 119 beside Hadrian a Roman consul . The year of birth and death are unknown.

Rusticus was probably the biological son of the consular Publius Tullius Varro. In this case his brother was the politician Publius Tullius Varro , who made a career under several emperors. He was presumably the adoptive son of Lucius Dasumius Hadrianus, suffect consul in the year 93. In 108 Rusticus, along with other famous contemporaries, namely Pliny the Younger and the historian Tacitus , was appointed as heir by Gnaeus Domitius Afer Titius Marcellus Curvius Tullus in the so-called Testamentum Dasumianum .

Little is known about his political career. As a senator, however, Rusticus must have had significant influence and good connections to the ruling house. This is supported above all by the fact that he was full consul with the Emperor Hadrian (at the beginning of the year he was acting consul in contrast to the less prestigious suffect consul ), an honor that was only granted to close friends or close relatives of an emperor. He was also the initiator of the Senatus consultum Dasumianum de fidei commissariis libertatibus . His son was the suffect consul of 152, Lucius Dasumius Tullius Tuscus .
