Publius Tullius Varro was a Roman politician and senator of the 2nd century AD.

Life

Publius Tullius Varro came from a plebeian Roman family who originally lived in Tarquinii . He was the son of Senator Publius Tullius Varro, who had last been proconsul of the province of Macedonia . Publius Dasumius Rusticus was his brother.

He went through the usual career for senators, which is described in the inscription CIL XI, 3364 as follows: first he was decimvir stlitibus iudicandis , then he did his military service as a military tribune in the Legio XVI Flavia company , after which he began his political career ( cursus honorum ) as Quaestor urbanus . He then became aedilis cerealis , in order to then take on a military function again as a legate of the Legio XII Fulminata in the province of Cappadocia . Finally he was transferred to the Lower Rhine as commander of the Legio VI Victrix . Around 123/124 he became proconsul of the province of Baetica ulterior, then, again in Rome, Praefectus aerarii Saturni and suffect consul for the month of April 127. He then became curator alvei et ripae Tiberis et cloacae urbis , later (130–132) then Legatus Augusti pro praetore in the province of Moesia superior . Military diplomas prove that he was governor in the province of Moesia superior for the years 135 to 137. After all, he was proconsul of the province of Africa in one of the first years of the reign of Emperor Antoninus Pius . The date of his death is unknown.
