Puerto Rico is a small Argentine town in the Misiones Province in northeast Argentina .
Puerto Rico is the capital of the Libertador General San Martín Department . It was founded in 1919 by the German settlement pioneer Karl Culmey and initially colonized by Catholic German and Swiss immigrants who settled due to the good geographical location on the Paraná river and the good soil for agriculture.
Puerto Rico is located directly on the left bank of the Río Paraná and is bordered to the south by the municipality of Capioví , to the north and east by the municipality of Garuhapé and to the west by Paraguay . The Ruta Nacional 12 connects the city with the waterfalls of Iguazú, only 170 km away, and the provincial capital, Posadas, 140 km away .
The children's village Hogar Jesus Niño in Puerto Rico is managed by the German Pastor Waldschütz Foundation and provides such as B. the donation of a fire engine makes a valuable contribution to the German-Argentine friendship.
