Garuhapé is a municipality in the Misiones province , in the center of the Libertador General San Martín district . The name of the place comes from the Guaraní language and means "path of the dugouts".

The place has 8,259 inhabitants (2001 census) and is located on the Ruta Nacional 12 , 147 kilometers from Posadas and 150 kilometers from the Iguazú waterfalls . The distance to the capital Buenos Aires is 1251 kilometers.

In the municipal area mainly agriculture and forestry ( cassava , citrus fruits and yerba mate ) are operated, another important employer is a large brick factory, which delivers far beyond the provincial borders.

Garuhapé is known in the province for its tourist attractions: The Gruta India is a natural cave that has the oldest human settlement in the region. The Cueva del Yaguareté is also a small cave, in front of which a naturally dammed stream runs. Both caves are very popular destinations for camping and swimming in summer.
