Puffy is the mascot of the free operating system OpenBSD and the software OpenSSH , which is also standard on Linux . Puffy is a stylized puffer fish that symbolizes the ambitions of the developers to create a robust and safe system.

In everyday language Puffy is also Blowfish called, on the one hand, the encryption algorithm Blowfish , on the other hand the English word for puffer fish .

Puffy is also the mascot of the open source projects LibreSSL , OpenBGPD , OpenOSPFD , OpenNTPD , OpenSMTPD , OpenIKED and OpenCVS . It takes on a role similar to that of the penguin Tux in the Linux project. Puffy replaced the BSD daemon as a mascot when OpenBSD 2.6 was released in 1999 .

Puffy is a motif on t-shirts and posters. This merchandise is offered by the OpenBSD project to fund the development of OpenBSD and all related projects. In addition, Puffy is a regular actor in the songs that appear parallel to the editions of the operating system.
