Punta Almonacid is a headland on the Black Coast of Palmerland on the Antarctic Peninsula . It forms the southern branch of the Merz Peninsula . There is a risk of confusion with Flagon Point further north .

Argentine scientists named it in 1978 after the Argentine aviation pioneer Vicente Almandos Almonacid (1882–1953), who made the first flight over the Andes in 1920 .
