Punta Alvear is a headland at the southwestern end of the Strescher Peninsula on the Loubet coast of Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located south of Cape Bellue on the northern boundary of Darbel Bay .
Argentine scientists named it in 1978 after General Carlos María de Alvear (1789-1852), a protagonist of Argentina's independence .
