Punta Flies is a headland in the northeast of Half Moon Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It marks the north-western limit of the entrance from McFarlane Strait into Caleta Matamala .
Argentine scientists named them after the Argentine naval officer Felipe Fliess (1878–1952), who in 1903 led the rescue trip with the corvette Uruguay for the troubled participants of the Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1901–1903) under the direction of Otto Nordenskjölds .
