Punta Poblete is a headland in the north of Livingston Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is located northwest of Playa Escondida on the west side of Cape Shirreff , the northern branch of the John Paul II peninsula .
Chilean scientists named her after Mario Poblete Garcés, who was involved in the preparations for the 6th Chilean Antarctic Expedition (1951–1952), skipper of the Piloto Pardo in the 20th Chilean Antarctic Expedition (1965–1966) and from 1971 director of the Instituto Antártico Chileno .
