Ludwig Hanemann

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ludwig Franz Wilhelm Hanemann (born October 27, 1907 in Hartlebury, Worcestershire, England; † February 11, 1996 in Munich) was a German magician and author who went by the stage name Punx and had a major influence on the presentation of magic in the 20th century.

Life

Punx's parents were Germans who lived in England for a short time. This is where Punx was born. His interest in magic was sparked by attending magician performances to which his grandfather took him. When he was five years old, his parents moved him back to Germany and lived in Bremen. During World War II he was captured in France in 1944 and eventually interned in Great Britain. There he appeared under the name PUNX, which he had been using since around 1940. In 1946 he returned to Germany and in 1948 became a professional magician. At the same time, he learned the profession of advertising specialist.

Art form

Punx had the gift of combining good effects with good stories and thus achieved a particularly effective form of dramatic presentation. In full-length performances he portrayed Eulenspiegel, Cagliostro, and Münchhausen in appropriate costumes. In the end he appeared as Punx. Natias Neutert emphasized in his Punx portrait for DIE ZEIT if you want to enchant people and develop your own doings and drives into an art form . The special thing about it: Punx appeared with his programs in theaters that were previously closed to magic. He called his evenings a surrealist conference with music

When Punx was awarded the Hofzinser Ring in 1950 , the news magazine Der Spiegel published him as the first and to this day only magician as a cover story and with a cover picture. Punx also appeared on the cover of the illustrated Gong , issue 29, 1959, July 19 - July 25.
