Wittus Witt (* 7. August 1949 as Hans-Günter Witt in Bockhorst ) is a German magician , writer , gallery owner and publisher.

Live and act

Hans-Günter Witt passed his Abitur in 1971 at the CJD-Gymnasium in Versmold in East Westphalia and then went to the State Art Academy in Düsseldorf to study with Joseph Beuys to study art teaching. After Joseph Beuys was dismissed by the then Minister of Culture, Johannes Rau , Witt switched to the University of Applied Sciences for Design in Düsseldorf, where he obtained his degree as a designer in 1976.

In 1975 he was discovered by Jean Pütz from WDR in Cologne. Since then he has appeared on television over two hundred times. From 1994 to 1997 he had his own magic television series on WDR: " Tele-Zauber mit Wittus Witt ". Wittus Witt also moderated many television programs. From 1993 to 1995 he regularly performed interactive magic on the radio by telephone with callers who were switched to the studio.

Wittus Witt is one of the founding members of the association of full-time magicians “Die Profis”, who met in autumn 1989 for the first time. The members included the magician Gutelli and the ventriloquist Jörg Jará .

In addition, he has become known to the public through book publications. With his collection of historical magic boxes he was able to equip many exhibitions at home and abroad. In 2004, part of the collection was auctioned off at the auction house for antique toys in Winterthur. Witt has published the only business directory for magicians for his colleagues since 1977: "Yellow Magic Pages". In 2000 he took over Germany's trade magazine for magicians, the Magische Welt founded in 1952 , in which he had previously published articles and a column, and led it to a high-circulation specialist publication in Europe.

Witt made theater appearances at Kom (m) ödchen in Düsseldorf , in the cabaret Die Stachelschweine in Berlin and in the Renitenztheater Stuttgart. He gave lectures on magic in adult education centers .

In 1980 Witt initiated the first German magical historian and collector's symposium , which has since been organized by magicians in various cities. In 2006 he founded the Magic Theater Festival at the Mülheim Theater , which was held four times. In 2011 Witt organized the 1st Hamburg Magic Nights in the Hamburg cellar theater . In 2012 the 2nd Hamburg Magic Nights followed . In October 2012 he opened Germany's first magic gallery Galerie-W , in which exhibitions on magic are shown and works by visual artists are exhibited. In August 2013 Wittus Witt organized the 5th European Conference of Magic Historians (EMHC), which was launched in Paris in 2005. Edwin Alfred Dawes from England took part as the guest of honor . The Johann Nepomuk Hofzinser Memorial Ring was also awarded for the 7th time at the 5th EMHC . At the same time as the EMHC, the 3rd Hamburg Magic Nights took place in the mirror hall of the Museum of Art & Industry . In March 2014 Witt started the Zauber-Pedia , an online lexicon on the subject of magic.

On April 7th, 2019 Wittus Witt acted as jury leader for the international culture award of the magic of Neu-Ulm. The prize was awarded at the opening of the 150th anniversary of the city of Neu-Ulm in the Ratiopharm-Arena .

Wittus Witt is the great-grandson of the Leipzig architect Pauls Richter .

In March 2020, the book " Die Bartl-Chronik " , published and designed by Wittus Witt, was placed on the " long list " of the Hamburg State and University Library .
