Walter Wenger (born November 12, 1906 in Insterburg , East Prussia, † February 1, 1983 in Frankfurt / Main ) was a German window dresser, commercial artist, illustrator and amateur magician .

Career

In 1920 Walter Wenger began an apprenticeship as a window dresser, and in 1927 he became an advertising assistant in Berlin. He then continued his training as a commercial artist and took courses at the Reimann School in Berlin.

In 1945 he moved with his family (2 children, a son and a daughter) to Erfurt, where he was also magically active. Here he designed the head of the newspaper for the first issue of the Thuringian regional newspaper.

In 1956 he started to look after the magazine "Zauberkunst". In the same year he met the magic device dealer and publisher W. Geissler- Werry . Walter Wenger begins to illustrate Werry's 1st main catalog.

In 1958 Walter Wenger moved to Düren and took over the entire editorial work and graphic design of the magazine Magische Welt , which he carried out until 1974. He then moved to his daughter in Frankfurt due to illness and lived there until his death. During his time in Düren, Walter Wenger looked after the Gerda company and a printing company for wine and champagne bottle labels in Düren. Walter Wenger designed the cover of the magazine Die Zauberkugel by Franz Braun .

From July 22nd to September 30th 2013 the Galerie-W in Hamburg dedicated a special exhibition to Walter Wenger. On display are examples of posters, book titles, packaging, letterheads and illustrations from the magazine Magische Welt from Walter Wenger's work

The artist and son, Peter Wenger, and sister, Renate Groß, from Frankfurt came from France for the vernissage on July 22nd, 2013.
