Gallery-W
The gallery-W was in October 18, 2012 Hamburg-Hohenfelde founded.
In changing exhibitions, works in connection with the art of magic as well as works by artists who deal with the subject of magic are shown.
history
The founder and owner Wittus Witt comes from a middle-class family, his father was a professional officer in the First and Second World War, his great-grandfather, Paul Richter , was a well-known architect in Leipzig. After graduating from high school, Witt studied art and art history at the State Art Academy in Düsseldorf under Joseph Beuys and, after Beuys had been dismissed by the then Science Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, Johannes Rau , he graduated as a designer from the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences . As a schoolboy he founded a young gallery in a discarded bus that he had parked in the schoolyard. However, he had to have it removed after a few months.
After a successful career as a magician , he has been devoting himself more to art since 2012 and founded the Galerie-W.
program
Magic is part of general culture. Painters, composers, singers and authors have been inspired by her. The novel is about Daniel Kehlmann Berholm's idea of a magician who believes he can really do magic. The amendment by Michael Schneider , The Fun House , tells of two rival, caster brothers.
The Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch shows in his painting The Juggler a pocket player during the demonstration of the cup game . The artist Paul Wunderlich has also taken up this topic and created a cycle of 10 sheets from it. On the LP Kieselsteine , the Belgian-Italian singer Adamo tells of a magician who makes a cigarette disappear in the song Tilting .
The Galerie-W takes up this connection between art and magic and presents four times a year changing exhibitions. In addition, magic performances in the Fluxus style are often given on Friday evenings .
The gallery is a member of the Hamburg Galleries Association.
In 2019, Wittus Witt announced the Rosa Bartl Art Prize for Galerie-W, which is endowed with a total of 1,750 euros. Hamburg artists were asked to deal artistically with the subject of magic.
public perception
In a very short time, the Galerie-W was recognized regionally and nationally. In August 2014, Galerie-W was a guest at Museum Pinneberg with the exhibition IMAGINARIUM .
